Rocker Sal Show is a Tribute to the 50s & 60s. Singing songs from Elvis, Billy Fury, Buddy Holly, Cliff Richard, The Beatles, Dean Martin, The Monkees, The Rolling Stones, Bobby Darin, Fats Domino, Gene Vincent, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, Ricky Nelson & many more!
Back in the 50's when Rock & Roll first officially exploded on the scene, it caused moral outrage and was called the devils music, berated and condemned as a leading factor to juvenile delinquency and teenage rebelliousness.
The fact is a musical genre does not simply appear, it gradually evolves to a point in time when some event-performance, publication, or recording allows listeners to perceive its unique qualities and apply a label. That said, it was therefore already there in the 1940’s albeit in many different art forms: Jump Blues, Hillbilly, R& B, Black Gospel and Boogie Woogie Blues to name few. Artist such as Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, Howlin’ Wolf and Bessie Smith are fine examples of their day and how they subsequently influenced artists the world over.
One such artist was Elvis Aaron Presley, An extra-ordinary man who brought together everything he had heard and seen as a dirt-poor kid raised in Memphis, who fused styles of Gospel, Country, Hillbilly, and Rhythm and Blues, crossed the race lines, and tore down the colour barrier like no other.
Presley was able to connect recordings from both sides of the colour line and give it a sound so different, it has since been acknowledged as the ‘big bang’ in pop history. Around 1955 Bill Haley was enjoying chart success with Rock Around The Clock but it’s true to say Little Richard, James Brown and Chuck Berry, were also pioneers of Rock & Roll.
But it was Elvis who opened up the floodgates, with his captivating performances of gyrating and vocal gymnastics along with shrewd management, that electrified audiences the world over, his records sold in their millions and his movies broke box office records.
He is hailed the messiah of Rock & Roll, and spawned a generation of Rock & Rollers such as; Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran then later, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Tom Jones, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen to name a few and can be felt right up to the present day.
Each artist and band has passed on the ‘torch’ like some Olympic flame, influencing one to another. These talented individuals learnt their craft the hard way, played their own instruments and sang live, something that is very rare these days.
The Rocker Sal Show treads the lawns of the past with Sals vitality and passion, enthralling audiences with his amazing vocals (Sal has an incredible 3 octave voice) and visually exciting stage presence. This is evident as he faithfully replicates the original artist’s interpretation with such closeness that one can almost forget that each show is sung live!
Paying homage to the aforementioned greats is no easy task, but
Sal’s true love for Rock & Roll music coupled with many years of experience, you will be reminded why, in the 50s & 60s, the world rocked and rolled!
